Sony Introduces New Home Theatre Systems for Multi-Room Listening

Sony, one of the world leaders in electronics, has launched a new home theatre system today. These systems are cutting-edge, in that, they implement the new S-AIR™ technology. This new technology uses wireless connectivity to enable multi-room listening.

These systems will provide an easy-to-use solution for multi-room listening because they preclude the necessity of complex setups. There is no requirement for IP addresses, WEP keys and pin codes. The system takes care of this, by allowing a user to plug in an S-AIR Air Station receiver within a 164 feet radius, and the wireless audio will be transmitted.

“From playing music to broadcasting the big game throughout the home, our home theater systems with S-AIR technology makes entertaining easy and affordable,” said Brennan Mullin, vice president for audio products for Sony Electronics’ Digital Imaging and Audio Division. “Multi-room audio systems typically are quite costly and need to be professionally installed. Now we have a simple, affordable alternative.”

The four BRAVIA® Theatre systems include five-disc changer DVD/CD player, with up scaling to 1080p via HDMI™ when connected to a 1080p-capable HDTV set.

Sony’s Digital Media Port is also included with the new releases. This port is a home theatre system accessory is a tiny device with major functionality. It forms a basis for the integration of different extras, for controlling, networking and connectivity. There is also a cradle for iPod players, which connects to this device to wirelessly stream content. There are other optional accessories available separately as well.

Integrating DCAC (Digital Cinema Auto Calibration), the systems allow setup of the multimedia system to be automatic and painless, by using a microphone to gauge distances and levels.

The systems also pack in a Dialogue Audio Enhancer with night mode. This adjusts dialogue volume when the speaker volume is reduced. Additionally, there is an updated Portable Audio Enhancer, which includes the information that is removed from an audio signal during compression . This has the effect of enhancing the clarity and depth of a connected music player.

A rear wireless speaker kit using radio frequency to send audio signals to rear speakers, totally doing away with ugly wires. A maximum of 4 receivers/speakers that use the S-AIR technology can be hooked up to one home theatre system. All these components will be available shortly, in March, and will be available for purchase from all authorized retailers.
