CCTV cameras at all WR stations soon

Next time when you are waiting at a Mumbai railway station, someone could be monitoring you. Western Railway would soon have closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at all 35 stations from Churchgate to Virar.

Zicom Electronic Security Systems Limited on Saturday was selected for installing 520 cameras. These cameras will not only capture every movement in the station premise but also store the data for almost a month. “The project is estimated to cost Rs1.21 crore,” said Satya Prakash, divisional railway manager of WR.

Around 15 cameras will be installed at each station. “To begin with we are expected to lay cables in nearly 160 km stretch from Churchgate to Virar. On Monday, we have started the work of laying cables and other related works,” said Ravi Malhan, general manager of Zicom.
